8 DAYS SIRIMON - NARO MORU TRAVERSE TO PT. NELION & BATIAN

This option is for people who wish to attempt Rock / Ice Climbing to Pt. Nelion 5188m & Pt. Batian 5199M.  From Mid-December, the best route to go through is through is 'THE NORMAL ROUTE' using Top Hut - Austrians Hut - as the base of the climb. The route is rather complex and much of the climbing is not above grade III with difficult ice conditions, the gate of the mists may be lV.  Ice Axe and Crampons are a must.  Time taken from Austrians Hut to Nelion is 7 - 8 hours and another 3-4 hours to Batian and return to Nelion.  Clients are advised to spend a night at Howell Hut.

DAY 01: 08.00 a.m - Depart Nairobi and drive to Mount Kenya area via Nanyuki town where you meet the porters and your guide. There after proceed to Sirimon gate on the North West of the mountain. Picnic lunch will be served before you start the 3 hours walk to Old Moses 3300m for dinner and overnight.

DAY 02: Early breakfast and start the walk up to Shipton’s camp.  [6-7 hours walk] with a scenic view of Nelion and Batian Peaks through Mackinder’s Valley. Arrive Shipton’s camp 4200m for dinner and overnight.  Picnic lunch is served enroute

DAY 03: After breakfast, make an anti-clockwise summit circuit of the peaks via Kami Hut at Hausburg col. to Mackinder’s camp 4200m.  The walk takes 4-5 hours.  Lunch, dinner and overnight at Mackinder’s camp. 

DAY 04: Hike to Austrian Hut 4700m for 2 hours and spend the afternoon scouting the area and preparing for the summit Pt. Nelion & Pt. Batian.   Optional hike to Point Lenana 4985M.

DAY 05:  Early morning [5 am] walk to the stem of the peaks and start the rock climb to Pt. Nelion & Pt. Batian to spend the night at Howell Hut DAY 06: This day you descend to Austrian Hut for the night or reserve the day incases there are delays prompted by the weather. DAY 07: Descend to Met Station 3300m via Mackinder’s camp for Lunch, dinner & overnight. DAY 08: Breakfast and descend further to Naro Moru Park gate to meet with transfer vehicle to Nairobi.
