MOUNT KILIMANJARO

MARANGU ROUTE

ST 032 - 7 DAYS

Day 1 : Depart Nairobi by shuttle bus . On arrival in Moshi you are met and transferred to your base hotel for the overnight stay (Bed and Breakfast).

Day 2: Transfer from your hotel to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Marangu. From here you trek through the lush forest to Mandara Hut (9000ft./2750m). Stay overnight. All meals provided.

Day 3: Leaving the forest, you trek along a good path through open grassy moorlands to reach Horombo Hut (12000 ft./3700m). Stay overnight. All meals provided.

Day 4: Continue ascending, past the ‘Last Water’ point, to reach The Saddle, a dry area between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Overnight at Kibo Hut. (15,000 ft/4700 m). All meals provided.

Day 5: An early start for the stiff walk up steep and heavy scree to reach Gillman’s Point (18,640ft./5685m) in time for sunrise. From here it is possible to continue to Uhuru Peak (19,349ft/5895m), the highest point in Africa. Afterwards descend to Horombo Hut. Stay overnight. All meals provided.

Day 6: Descend to the park gate, from where you are transferred back to your hotel. Bed and Breakfast.

Day 7: After breakfast you will be transferred back to connect with the shuttle bus to Nairobi. Tour ends.

 

MACHAME ROUTE

ST 033 - 8 DAYSMount Kilimanjaro  "dome" peak

DAY 1: Depart Nairobi by shuttle bus to Moshi . Transfer to your hotel for overnight stay. Bed and breakfast.

DAY 2: Transfer from your hotel to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Machame. From here you trek through the lush forest to Machame Hut (10,000ft./3000m). Stay/camp overnight. All meals provided.

DAY 3: Leaving the forest, the path follows a steep ridge, passing through heather and open moorlands, and crossing a large gorge to reach Shira Hut (12,000ft/3900m). Stay camp overnight. All meals provided.

DAY 4: You turn eastwards and continue ascending through the dry landscape before dropping again to reach Barranco Hut (13,000ft/3900m). Stay camp overnight. All meals provided.

Day 5: The path climbs steeply out of the Barranco Valley, crosses the Karanga Valley, then turns north to reach Barafu Hut (15,500ft/4600m). Stay camp overnight. All meals provided.

Day 6: A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then to Uhuru Peak (19,340ft/5895m), the highest point in Africa. Afterwards descend to Gillman’s Point and on down to Horombo Hut, stay overnight. All meals provided.

Day 7: Descend passing Mandara Hut to the park gate from where you are transferred back to your hotel for overnight.

Day 8: After breakfast you are transferred for your shuttle bus back to Nairobi.
