02 HOURS - NAIROBI NATIONAL MUSEUMS / THE SNAKE PARK
Nairobi – Kenya’s capital city – There are lots of attractions in the surroundings. NAIROBI CITY TOUR - Duration 2 hours.
Departs at 14h00. Drive by the parliament buildings for a view, the Kenyatta International Conference Center, the Railway Museum with great memories of 19th century aircrafts, national archives, the Nairobi Viewpoint, American Embassy Bomb blast site and the tour ends with a visit to the National Museums of Kenya – Famous for its exhibits on the origin of man. Established in 1930. Old age fossil remains and archeological artifacts discovered by Dr. Leakey’s are housed here. The Museum displays a variety of material culture from the 42 ethnic groups in Kenya, which includes musical instruments, traditional woodcarvings and agricultural implements as well as ceremonial ornaments. Adjacent is the SNAKE PARK & AQUARIUM - you will see cobras, puff-adders mambas and the large African – rock python [non-poisonous] found only in Kenya. Several species of crocodiles found in Africa, the American alligator, fresh water terrapins and tortoise are also viewed here. An aquarium holding fish from East African Lakes and rivers are a main feature of the parks.
02 HOUR - RAILWAY MUSEUM
The historic museum located off Uhuru highway in the city center. Visitors get an opportunity to climb on board train carriages dating back to the turn of the 20th century. The carriages are full of historical photographs and relics from the time when railway constructions workers first arrived in Nairobi. The history here is fascinating encounter with the story of Nairobi’s humble beginning Guests will love the view of historic items displayed at the museum. Well-displayed pictures of the people who constructed the railway hanged on the walls of the museum.
02 HOURS - KAREN BLIXEN MUSEUM / GIRAFFE CENTER
In memory of the late Danish Lady – Karen Blixen - Located 10 kms from the city center and once the house of Baroness Karen Blixen. Made famous by the academy winning film [Out Of Africa] and officially opened in 1986. The guide walks you through House various rooms where you see Karen’s households’ and her personal belongings. From here you view the magnificent view of Ngong Hills. There after a short drive to the Giraffe Center – where you will enjoy feeding the endangered Rothschild giraffe… The center is built on a platform to make it easier for people to feed the giraffes – you can take a great picture feeding these graceful animals.
02 HOURS - DAVID SHELDRICK WILDLIFE TRUST / BOMAS OF KENYA
Situated and founded in 1977 in honor of Daphne Sheldrick on the edge of Nairobi N Park,here visitors observe the amazing accomplishments of dedicated men and women in the successful rehabilitation of orphaned baby elephants and rhinos. The orphanage is a charitable organization. Visitors are allowed in everyday for one hour during the mud baths between 1100hrs - 1200hrs. [Optional - lunch at the carnivore restaurant] There after drive to a traditional dance arena Bomas of Kenya which start at 14h30hrs everyday. Kenya has a diverse 42 different ethnic groups that perform their traditional regalia; the rich ceremonies and festivals, cuisine and way in which the foods are prepared, preserved and consumed.
CARNIVORE RESTAURANT
Africa’s most renowned restaurant and an experience of a lifetime! The restaurant serves lunches and dinners at this succulent game barbequed meat. Visitors will be briefed on various sauces for different meats, Crocodiles, ostrich etc. When your flag is on, the waiters keep coming up to serve more meat until you surrender and flag off flat on the table. The meats go very well with DAWA – Swahili name for Medicine, a mixture of Vodka, lemon, ice, honey and sugar to help digest the meat. You will love a repeat visit here.
01 DAY TRIP - LAKE NAIVASHA
08h00, leave Nairobi with picnic lunch boxes & drive down the Great Rift Valley stopping at the viewpoint for photography. Continue on to Hell's Gate National Park and hire a bike from Fisherman’s camp Ride into Hells gate [7kms] and enjoy the spectacular ride in the park.. You will leave the bikes at rangers post ride and enjoy the spectacular walk through the Gorge. You will see hot springs and beautiful landscape besides the diverse game. Walk back to pick your bikes and return journey back to Nairobi.
01DAY TRIP - MT. LONGONOT
Mt Longonot is an active volcanic mountain. We depart Nairobi at 08h30 with packed lunch and drive through the Great Rift Valley to the park gate. Start the hike to the crater rim with a wonderful views of Lake Naivasha and the great rift valley, the mountain has V-shaped valleys and ridges. The crater has a dense forest. Walk around the crater for approximately 3 - 4hrs. Walk down to connect with your transport back to Nairobi to arriving by 6p.m.
01DAY TRIP - NGONG HILLS
6kms from Nairobi city center lays the only indigenous forest in the world that is closest to the capital city. The forest covers 600 hectares and is managed by the Ngong Forest Sanctuary Trust, which is a private trust. The walk through the forest with the assistance of a naturalist assists you in identifying lots of species of birds. Picnic lunch en route.
½ DAY TRIP NAIROBI NATIONAL PARK
The only park in the world within the proximity of a capital city. The unique park has a variety of animals and birds species so close to the city. The flora and fauna makes it possible for many different types of wildlife species to co-exist. Among the animals that can be seen in the park are lion, buffalo, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, numerous antelopes and gazelles and the black rhino and many bird’s species of birds. At the park entrance is the Nairobi safari walk, formerly the animal orphanage. The animal orphanage was established in 1964 as a refuge for wild animals found abandoned, orphanage or injured throughout Kenya.
½ DAY TRIP - KIAMBETHU TEA FARM
The highlands of Kenya have a long time history of tea farming since the time of the white settlers. Depart Nairobi city at 1000hrs and drive to the Northern part of the city and stop enroute to view the vast tea plantations. 11H00, arrive Kiambethu Tea Farm where FIONA & MARCUS welcomes you for tea and coffee before your guide walks you around the 6-acre natural forest tea farm for a practical view of the tea pruning and harvesting. Here you will learn of different medicinal trees, Columbus monkeys, butterflies and various plants. Later a lecture by the host and enjoy lunch served in the gardens outside their home. Leave for Nairobi – drop off at your hotel.
DAY TRIP: LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Nakuru National Park lays 160kms northwest of Nairobi. 08:30 Hours. Depart Nairobi for Lake Nakuru Park passing through the Great Rift Valley with brief stop over to take photographs. Afterwards head straight for game drives – and stop by for Picnic lunch; proceed on for an extensive afternoon game drive in this park described as the world’s bird’s spectacle. You will see thousands of flamingos & other birds. Animals like waterbuck, buffalo’s, lion and rhinos are commonly seen here. The park has unique and the biggest euphorbia forest & yellow acacia woodland, Return to Nairobi arriving by 6 p.m.
