Rongai Route

The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. Though gaining popularity amongst climbers, Rongai has low traffic. It is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the more frequently used easy route - Marangu.
Brief Information

Day One
Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to, Springlands hotel/alternative Hotel for overnight - bed & breakfast.
Day Two
3-4 hours drive around Kilimanjaro to Rongai Gate [2100m]. 4 hours, walk through the rain forest to camp 1 (2800m).
Day Three
6 hours walk through giant heathers and moor lands to camp 2 near, Kikelewa cave (3600m)
Day Four
DAY 04: 4-5 Hours walk towards the jagged pinnacles of Mawenzi Tarn Hut, (4330m). The last section is fairly steep.
Day Five
Gain the saddle and walk across this desert of scree to a camp not far from Kibo Hut (3-4 hours, 4730m)Day Six
Very early start for the summit on steep scree up to Gilman's point =(5 hours, 5681m) on the crater rim. Continue around the rim to Uhuru peak (1.5 hours, 5895m). descend to our camp for brunch and a rest, then walk down to Horombo Hut. Total walking time around 12 hours.
Day Seven
5 hours descend to Marangu Gate. Drive back to Springland Hotel - bed & breakfast.
Day Eight
Transfer to airport for flight home.
