KILIMANJARO NATIONAL PARK

An area of 755 sq. km, which starts from above 2700m. The mountain attracts thousands of visitors each year round aspiring to conquer the summit. The first recorded successful climb was in 1889 by one Hans Meyers, reaching Uhuru Peak at 5895m. The Mountain has five major zones, the lower slopes, which are cultivated, rain forest, Alpine moorland, high desert and the summit.

ACCOMMODATION ON THE MOUNTAIN

Mandara Hut is in a cleared area of a tropical rain forest, it is made up of a dormitory for 30 persons, ten cabins for 5 people each, all made of wood and one stone structure for 15person. All with bank beds and clean Mattresses. There are communal toilet and cold shower facilities.

Horombo hut is the meeting point for the climbers ascending and descending. The setting of the hut is in an open area where on a clear

day one can see the top of the mountain and the glacier. One big dormitory accommodates 30 climbers and another 15 small cabins for 6 persons each. All with bank beds and clean mattresses. Communal Cold showers and toilet facilities are available.

Kibo hut is the most top hut on Marangu route 4700meters; climbers use the hut for only a couple of hours as a resting point before the summit. The hut is made of stone and has very limited space, can accommodate 60 climbers. Communal pit latrine is available but no showers. Please note that no water is available at the hut and each will have to refill their bottles at the last water point (Guide will advise). Also it is not good to spend an extra night at the hut because of altitude sickness unless one has special interest.
