Umbwe Route

image

Classified as the most spectacular & direct way to reach the summit [Uhuru peak].  This step route became famous when it was featured in the Dramatix [Imax] film [Kilimanjaro – to the roof of Africa,  it approaches Kilimanjaro from the south, following a forested ridge to the moorlands, then traversing below the  southern ice fields to reach the Machame route, which is followed to the summit.

The route is considered very difficult & is only recommended to fit individuals with mountain walking experience. Due the fast ascesension, the route does not provide the necessary stages for altitude acclimatization.  Due to steepness, we recommend trekking poles on these slippery slopes in the rainforest.
