VISA, HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
FOR ALL OF AFRICA

WHAT IS A VISA?

A Visa is a permit granting entry to a country. It is usually stamped in your passport although in special circumstances it may be issued on a loose sheet of paper.

HOW IS A VISA ISSUED?

Although sometimes a visa is available at the point of entry to the country concerned, it is more common that the visa needs to be obtained in advance. Many African countries have an embassy in London, New York, Washington and Nairobi, some have Embasses in Canberra and Wellington where you can apply. Where there is no Embassy in your home country it will usually be necessary to apply to an Embassy overseas and this can take some time. Applications involve completing a form or forms and sending them off with a number of photographs and your passport. sometimes the Embassy will want to see return air tickets or other supporting documentation. Our offices hold a stock of visa application forms and we are happy to offer advice to our clients.

HOW MUCH DOES A VISA COST?

The embassy concerned usually makes a charge for a visa which often varies depending on the nationality of the applicant, so it is impossible for us to list actual costs. we can apply for a visa on behalf of our clients and for this we charge an administration fee.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

VACCINATION CERTIFICATES

It is necessary to have valid international vaccination certificates against cholera and/or yellow fever to visit some countries. If you do not have valid certificates you will probably be refused entry or very occasionally vaccinated on the spot. You should not take chances with your health. Listed here are the obligatory and recommended vaccinations at the time of printing.

MALARIA PRECAUTIONS

In many African countries there is a risk of malaria. There is no vaccination against this disease as yet so it is necessary to take anti malaria pills starting 10 days before entering a malarial area, while there, and for a period after leaving. The recommended tablets vary according to the area visited. Clinics or doctors will advise you on which tablets to take. It is wise to also take sensible precautions while exposed to mosquitoes such as wearing long trousers and long sleeved garments and using insect repellent and a mosquito net. If you do feel unwell on your return from Africa, be sure to tell your doctor that you have been in a malarial area.
